Lucas Schellens started his saxophone lessons on the age of 10 years old with wind orchestra Euphonia in Geldrop and didn’t stop playing since then.
Lucas studied classical saxophone at the Fontys conservatory in Tilburg and graduated in 2001 with a teacher degree for saxophone.
Lucas has played in several ensembles and orchestra’s, like the “Brabant saxophone ensemble, Harmonie O&U from Beek en Donk, Orkest Zuid and saxophone quartet “Castafiore”. With the saxophone quartet he made a concertour in China in 2004.
Apart from the classical playing Lucas also learned the Jazz way of playing. He took lessons with saxophonist Mete Erker and Chicago based saxophonist Nick Bisesi.
Lucas conducted the BigBand of Geldrop for several Years and plays the lead alto and soprano saxophone at the Sonic Blast Bigband from Eindhoven.
Lucas has a duo with collegue pianist Ruud Smeets with who he plays standard Jazz pieces as well as his own compositions.
During his study Lucas already started to give saxophone lessons at the music school in Geldrop/ Nuenen and for Harmonie O&U in Beek en Donk. Since 2002 Lucas is working for the cultural institute RICK in Weert. He also gives lessons for two wind orchestra’s in Asten and Meijel and giving homelessons in Eindhoven.
His passion for teaching brought him to Peru where he teached music as a volunteer for NGO Arpeggio in Trujillo.
